Shrub Oak is a therapeutic day and boarding school for children, adolescents, and young adults on the autism spectrum who face complex challenges and have high personal-attention needs. Located on 127 acres of rolling, wooded hills less than one hour from New York City, Shrub Oak offers unparalleled educational opportunities for students in a family-centric, supportive environment. The hallmark of the Shrub Oak program is our unique transdisciplinary approach. Each student has a team of expert teachers, clinicians, and campus life staff who collaborate closely to create Individualized Transdisciplinary Education Programs (ITEPs) tailored to each student’s specific interests and abilities.
We offer extraordinary personal attention with a classroom student-to-staff ratio of 2:1 in our Core Program and 1:1 in our Founders Program. Specialty areas include complex students with behaviors; NVLD; dual diagnoses of autism and co-occurring conditions including visual and hearing impairments; medically fragile students; and elopement.
